Our Roots

The initial concept was a collaboration between Steven Hinshaw and Chad Hutcheson, rooted in the historic preservation of Dr. John Davidson McLean’s homestead. Many aspects of the original house are preserved, adding a much-needed resource to the Belmont and Lake Wylie communities. Our vision is to preserve the character of this iconic home while adding a casual and fun dining and gathering space for the community.

Inspired by the natural beauty of McLean, we  offer dining both inside the house and outside on the porch, or in our “grove.” Creative appointments include the “Canoe Room” and a bar milled from over 100-year-old reclaimed wood from The Chronicle Mill in Belmont (in collaboration with Chronicle Mill Works).

Seven Oaks Café is owned and operated by Front Porch Hospitality, the parent company of The String Bean and Historic 10 Catawba. Our philosophy and focus here is the same as in all of our concepts; fresh, high quality, unique menu items, quality products offered at reasonable prices while delivering a highly satisfying customer experience.
